MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Police say a search-and-rescue team has recovered the body of man who tried to swim across the fast moving Merrimack River in Manchester.
Authorities say the 34-year-old man was allegedly swept downstream on Monday evening. New Hampshire State Police searched the river by helicopter and two fire departments used boats Monday night but were unable to find him.
Police say the man was reportedly homeless and trying to swim across the river to reach his campsite.
The search resumed on Tuesday and the man’s body was recovered around 3 p.m.
The man’s name is being withheld until relatives are notified.
