ARMADA, Mich. (AP) - Family members and supporters have unveiled plans for a memorial garden honoring a 14-year-old girl who was killed last year along a popular suburban Detroit nature trail.
The 1,400-square-foot garden is planned for a site along Macomb County Orchard Trail in Armada, near where April Millsap’s body was found in July.
Details were released Tuesday.
Her family has worked with volunteers, community leaders and private businesses to develop the garden. It will include a bell, and organizers say it will be completed in the next few months.
Thirty-three-year-old James VanCallis is charged in the teen’s death. His lawyer has said there’s no DNA evidence linking VanCallis to her death.
