SOLVAY, N.Y. (AP) - Police are looking for the suspect who they say shot a mother and her son on the porch of their home near Syracuse.

Authorities say it happened at about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the Onondaga County village of Solvay, just west of Syracuse. Both were rushed to a hospital where they underwent emergency surgery.

Solvay Police Chief Allen Wood says one victim was shot once and the other was shot twice. Wood says the son is out of surgery and is expected to recover.

There’s no word on the severity of the injuries to the mother.

The shooting occurred at a two-family home. The victims live in the upstairs apartment. Their names and ages haven’t been released.

Solvay Mayor Ron Benedetti says the area near the scene is secure and residents are safe.
