CONSTANTIA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the 58-year-old central New York man who was fatally shot last week during a confrontation with police.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man as David Schwalm. Officials say he was armed with a long gun when he was shot by a deputy on Friday in the rural town of Constantia, 15 miles north of Syracuse.
The shooting occurred after deputies were called to check on the welfare of a person, which turned out to be Schwalm. Oswego County authorities haven’t released any other details, including the name of the deputy who shot Schwalm.
