BESSEMER, Pa. (AP) - State police say they’re trying to find a man charged with hindering their investigation into the shooting death of a Detroit man near a western Pennsylvania school.

Police have charged 24-year-old Ryan Avery, of New Castle, with hindering prosecution and obstructing the law because of allegedly false information they say he gave them about 24-year-old Frederick Deangelo Swillings.

The Detroit man was found shot to death May 1 near Mohawk Elementary School in Bessemer.

Police say Swillings was seen getting into a car matching the description of one owned by Avery’s parents about 45 minutes before his body was found.

Police say Avery claimed he loaned the vehicle to a woman he didn’t know well that morning, but police say that woman’s mother told them her daughter is Avery’s girlfriend.

Nobody answered Avery’s home phone Tuesday.
