SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A Sioux City man has been arrested after police say he broke into a woman’s apartment and assaulted her with a hammer while trying to force her to have sex.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1FbJUc4 ) 26-year-old Russom Katem remained jailed Tuesday on several charges, including first-degree burglary and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, among others.

Police documents say Katem entered the woman’s empty apartment with a large hammer May 6 and hid in her bedroom. Court records say Katem attacked her in the kitchen when she returned, brought her into the bedroom and hit her in the head with the hammer several times when she refused him sex.

The woman sustained a broken nose and cuts in the alleged attack.

Katem will appear in court May 22.
