WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - State police say a 3-year-old child has been killed in a fiery rollover crash on Interstate 95 even though people tried to rescue him.

Police said Adonis Clark of North Kingstown was riding in a child safety seat in the burning car. Police said a state trooper and a passer-by tried several times to save the child.

Five-year-old Savannah Clark, 25-year-old Lindsey Clark, and the driver, 34-year-old Robert Souza, were injured. Police said the adults were critically injured. Police said Good Samaritans at the crash scene were able to pull them out of the car.

Police said the southbound car veered across the highway’s travel lines and hit a tree in the median, then rolled over and caught fire.

The cause is still under investigation.
