NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Tropical Storm Ana has caused extensive erosion along the shore in the Cherry Grove section of North Myrtle Beach.

North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling says that area of the city already had significant beach erosion and Ana made things worse, washing away large areas of sand on the shore. There was also some flooding in the city.

Dowling says City Manager Mike Mahaney is talking to county, state and federal officials to see what to do next about the beach. The city wants to pour sand on the beach as a temporary fix but that is an expensive process.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington says winds reached 45 mph as the storm came ashore in South Carolina.
