NORTHFIELD, Vt. (AP) - Two original crew members from the USS Montpelier visited Vermont to present a scholarship to a Norwich University student.

The Times Argus reports (https://bit.ly/1KYP7og ) Bert Snyder and Don Ohrt awarded the scholarship to Delaney Welch on behalf of the USS Montpelier Association. It is her third year receiving the honor.

The 90-year-old Snyder traveled to Norwich from Florida, while Ohrt came from California.

Snyder says he got on the USS Montpelier in June 1943 and stayed until the end of the war. The Montpelier was part of several campaigns in the Pacific. Snyder says he and Ohrt were the “babies of the ship.”

Welch says the scholarship paid for her room and board at school. Welch is entering the Marine Corps and received her orders for Sept. 1 in Virginia.
