LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell has announced the signing of 6-foot-3 forward Evelyn Akhator, who was named national junior college player of the year while leading Chipola (Florida) Community College to the championship.

The Lagos, Nigeria, native averaged school single-season records of 21.1 points and 16.7 rebounds along with 2.9 blocks per game in her lone season at Chipola. She will have three years of eligibility remaining at Kentucky and joins a young frontcourt that returns sophomores Alexis Jennings, Alyssa Rice and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers next season.

Mitchell said Tuesday in a statement that Akhator’s talent and skills “will have an immense impact on the quality of our team for 2015-16 and beyond. I am thrilled that Evelyn chose to be a Wildcat!”
