MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Wisconsin Supreme Court says a Milwaukee man was properly convicted in a 22-year-old homicide.

General Grant Wilson, then 38, was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years in October 1993 in connection with the shooting death of Evania Maric about five months earlier.

Wilson argued that Maric’s boyfriend hired an assassin to kill her. He contended that the trial judge improperly refused to allow him to present testimony from two witnesses who said the boyfriend had slapped and threatened Maric about two weeks before her death.

A state appeals court reversed his conviction in 2013. The Supreme Court reversed that decision Tuesday, ruling 6-1 that Wilson failed to show the boyfriend had the opportunity to kill Maric.

Wilson’s attorney says she’s disappointed with the ruling.
