FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) - Fort Jackson is displaying some of the Army’s airborne combat power for its newest group of soldiers, their families and friends.

Four Blackhawk helicopters from the South Carolina Army National Guard are opening Wednesday morning’s graduation for about 790 soldiers who have completed 10 weeks of basic combat training. The event begins at 9 a.m. at Hilton Field at the Army’s largest training installation.

The Blackhawks are demonstrating an air assault maneuver, in which soldiers are delivered to a field of operation.

The graduation was switched to Wednesday from its normal Thursday schedule so Fort Jackson could host a four-day celebration of Vietnam-era veterans at the installation beginning on Thursday.

Fort Jackson puts more than 45,000 soldiers annually through training.
