PHOENIX (AP) - An attorney defending Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in a contempt-of-court case has clarified a statement the lawman made nearly three weeks ago about an investigation into a statement allegedly made by the wife of the case’s judge.
Arpaio attorney Michele Iafrate made a court filing Wednesday as part of her ethical obligation to correct inaccuracies in the court record.
The sheriff testified he was aware of an investigation being conducted of U.S. District Judge Snow’s family members.
But Arpaio says in Wednesday’s filing that an investigation wasn’t conducted of any of Snow’s family members.
Iafrate says the examination by an outside investigator was instead aimed at determining the credibility of a claim by a woman who said that Snow’s wife wanted to get Arpaio out of office.
