EAST POINT, Ga. (AP) - Atlanta public transit officials say a crash involving a bus and a freight train left the bus driver and several passengers hospitalized.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority spokeswoman Alisa Jackson says a bus and a CSX train collided Wednesday afternoon in East Point, south of Atlanta.

Jackson says the bus operator and five passengers were taken to the Atlanta Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Jackson tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution one passenger suffered a severe head injury but was alert and conscious Wednesday night.

CSX spokeswoman Kristin Seay told the newspaper the train was headed to North Baltimore, Ohio from Jacksonville, Florida and was hauling 19 mixed freight and empty containers. Seay says none of the train’s crew was injured.

Details on the cause of the crash are unclear.
