DENVER (AP) - A Greeley man could face additional charges after the 2-year-old boy he is accused of abusing died.

Greeley police Sgt. J.P. Tymkowych tells KMGH-TV in Denver (https://goo.gl/kVmCIz ) that 33-year-old John Melvin White was baby-sitting his girlfriend’s son Michael Lara when the boy was injured Monday.

The sergeant says there were various injuries that included scrapes and bruises but no broken bones. The boy, who was found unresponsive, died just after midnight Wednesday at an Aurora hospital.

White was arrested on investigation of felony child abuse, and Tymkowych says the Weld County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case and will decide what additional charges may be filed.

Booking documents do not indicate if White has hired and attorney.
