WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A coroner says a western Pennsylvania toddler found dead in his crib had no signs of trauma, but authorities were still questioning why his mother didn’t call for help sooner.

The Associated Press is not identifying the Washington County boy or his mother because although authorities still were calling his death “questionable” Wednesday, no charges have been filed.

South Strabane Township police Chief Donald Zofchak says the 17-month old was pronounced dead at his home Tuesday evening. The boy’s mother called 911 after telling police she woke up after 5 p.m. to find the boy not breathing and with blue skin. But the woman also told police she noticed the boy was blue that morning, but didn’t call 911 then.

Zofchak says, “That’s the part we’re following up on.”
