BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - A nurse has been ordered to stand trial on charges he assaulted a bedridden patient after a former co-worker at a Pennsylvania care facility testified she walked in on the attack.

Defense attorney Thomas Joachim (JOH’-kim) tells The (Easton) Express Times (https://bit.ly/1AXe91e ) his client, 45-year-old Robert Poindexter, “maintains his innocence” and was merely changing the resident’s diaper. The 50-year-old woman had suffered an aneurism, could not speak, and had limited movement.

But another employee of Manor Care in Bethlehem testified Wednesday that she saw the Quakertown man performing a sex act after the woman’s nursing call light was triggered on May 31, 2013.

The employee testified the woman’s body had been moved to the foot of the mattress as Poindexter performed a sex act, saying, “I couldn’t believe what I saw.”

Poindexter no longer works there.
