PORT CLINTON, Ohio (AP) - A judge in northern Ohio says a New York man isn’t competent to go on trial on charges that he abducted a woman who offered him a ride and then led officers on a chase.

The trial for 24-year-old Eric Thomas of Rochester, New York, has been put off until it can be determined if he can regain his competence.

Police in Port Clinton along Lake Erie say Thomas asked a woman for a ride to the hospital in February and then abducted her.

She managed to jump out of her van but Thomas took off on a 20-mile chase that ended in the Toledo suburb of Oregon.

Thomas was charged with aggravated menacing, kidnapping, failure to comply and felonious assault.

His attorney, Terry Dunn, declined to comment Wednesday.
