COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio’s auditor is creating a new team within his office to investigate public corruption and government fraud.

State Auditor Dave Yost said in a statement Tuesday that he’s bringing together workers of different disciplines to be part of the group, called the Public Integrity Assurance Team.

Yost says the team will focus on exposing wrongdoing and bring independence to cases in which local officials have conflicts. He says team members have the expertise to take an initial complaint through the investigative process.

Yost says the team unites the office’s former Special Audit Section, Special Investigations Unit and some legal staff. It will comprise forensic auditors, investigators and attorneys who have decades of experience and working relationships with law enforcement officials.
