PEQUEA, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say a Pennsylvania man was killed when a tree fell on his passing truck, though they’re not sure why the tree fell in the first place.
Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni says Wednesday that 56-year-old William Beats, of Pequea (PEE’-kwah) died at the scene.
He was driving in Martic Township when the tree fell into the road and hit the driver’s side door of his pickup about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. The truck then went off the road and hit a mailbox before striking another tree.
The coroner says Beats died of various trauma injuries that resulted from the unusual chain of events.
