ATTICA, N.Y. (AP) - State police say they’re investigating the death of an inmate who was killed by another prisoner at Attica Correctional Facility last week.

Troopers say 26-year-old Rodney Calloway was attacked by another inmate around 9:15 p.m. Friday inside the maximum-security prison located in Wyoming County. Police say Calloway was taken to Wyoming Community Hospital in Warsaw, where he was pronounced dead about 90 minutes after the assault.

Troopers say an autopsy conducted at the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester on Monday determined the death to be a homicide.

Police say they’re continuing the investigation with the assistance of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the county district attorney’s office.

Corrections officials say Calloway was serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, burglary, assault and weapons possession stemming from an arrest in Brooklyn in 2012.
