COVENTRY, Vt. (AP) - A Newport, Vermont, couple are facing child endangerment and other charges after police the woman and her 5-year-old child were riding on the roof of a vehicle.

Police say the vehicle, operated by 20-year-old Nicholas Nobaris, was traveling at speeds of 50-55 mph on Route 14 in Coventry on Sunday.

Authorities say concerned citizen came to the state police barracks with pictures of a woman and child riding on the roof of the vehicle.

Nobaris and 27-year-old Lindsey Perkins have been cited to appear in court next month on charges of child endangerment, reckless endangerment and gross negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

They could not be reached for comment. There are no phone listings in their names.
