HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - The military says warning sirens and flashing lights at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in suburban Detroit are being activated as part of a training exercise.

Officials at the base in Macomb County’s Harrison Township, near Mount Clemens, say the warning signals may be seen or heard nearby on Wednesday. The training exercise is designed to simulate what response might be needed if a tornado hit the base.

Emergency first-responders assigned to the base are involved in the training.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports the exercise will be conducted during regular duty hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
