BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Southern University System President Ronald Mason has been named the new leader of the University of the District of Columbia.
Mason has served as head of the Southern System since 2010, but the board that oversees the system opted not to renew his contract past its June 30 expiration. The system is in the middle of a search for a new leader, with the goal of having someone named by July 1.
The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1G5Kx7Y) Mason was identified as one of three finalists for the D.C. job in March.
In a news release Tuesday, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser praised Mason’s selection to lead the public historically black college in the nation’s capital.
