SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A July trial has been scheduled for a 23-year-old Sioux City man accused of slamming his live-in girlfriend’s 3-year-old son into a corner of a furniture piece.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1G62xyX ) that Markus Leon on Monday filed a written plea of not guilty to child endangerment causing serious injury. His trial is set to begin on July 21.

Authorities say Leon was baby-sitting the boy and a 1-year-old child on April 22 and became angry when the boy’s noise kept waking up Leon, who was trying to sleep. Leon told officers that he lost his temper and slammed the boy into the furniture. The child later was diagnosed with a lacerated liver, a bruised spleen and a bruised kidney.
