STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian struck by an 18-wheeler in Oktibbeha County has died.

Mississippi Highway Patrol tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1FdtMqy) 71-year-old Willie McKinney of Vardaman was standing in the roadway on Highway 25 south of Starkville late Monday night when he was hit by a 2007 Peterbilt driven by 52-year-old Lonnie Thompson, of Corinth.

Troopers say McKinney was pronounced dead at the scene. Thompson was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
