SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - Woodbury County supervisors have removed a cap on the number of volunteer reserve deputies the sheriff can use.
The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1zZu0kw ) that the board voted 3-2 on Tuesday to eliminate the limit of 25.
Sheriff Dave Drew says removing the limit means his office won’t have to return to the County Board whenever it needs to increase its volunteer force. The board voted in July 2013 to limit the number of volunteer reserve deputies to 25, five fewer than Drew sought at the time.
Reserve deputies are trained through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
