BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s Agency of Transportation has rejected Brattleboro’s request for a $175,000 grant to help repair a falling wall in a parking lot.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports (https://bit.ly/1bI41RH) the total project of rebuilding the wall is expected to cost about $600,000.

Also rejected were grants to help pay for a damaged bridge and for paving.

An engineering study found that the retaining wall above the Harmony Lot which is holding up the road is failing, and the situation got worse over the winter and spring. Part of the parking lot is now closed in case the wall comes down.

The town is waiting to hear about a $300,000 Urgent Need Grant through the Community Development Block Grant program for the wall.
