SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say two state prison guards, a doctor and nurse are recovering from minor injuries sustained during an attack by an inmate being treated at a Syracuse hospital.

The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision says 49-year-old Warren Temple had been transferred April 30 from the medium-security Cayuga Correctional Facility to Upstate University Hospital for medical treatment.

Officials say when a corrections officer, a doctor and nurse entered Temple’s room Wednesday morning, he attacked them with a sharp object. Another officer outside the room heard the commotion and entered to help the others disarm Temple and restrain him.

Corrections officials say the four were treated for superficial injuries to their hands and upper bodies.

Temple, who wasn’t injured, was transferred to Wende, a maximum-security state prison near Buffalo.
