ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina Aquarium is releasing six sea turtles that have been rehabilitated at the aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital.

Five Kemp’s ridley turtles and one green sea turtle are being returned to the Atlantic on the Isle of Palms on Thursday. It’s the first public release of turtles this season from the aquarium in Charleston.

With the release, 163 threatened and endangered sea turtles have been treated at and released from the aquarium since it opened 15 years ago.

In March, a rare 475-pound endangered leatherback sea turtle found stranded on a South Carolina beach was also released on the Isle of Palms.
