GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Air Evac Lifeteam will soon be starting emergency flights from Delta Regional Medical Center.

The O’Fallon, Missouri-based company is building a hangar at the hospital.

Lee Williams, the company’s program director for the Greenville base, tells the Delta Democrat-Times (https://bit.ly/1HhpkJH ) that the move will mean faster service for many trauma patients who must be taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center as quickly as possible. Flight time is about 45 minutes

Williams says the facility, when completed, will be a self-sufficient flight-readiness operation.

The construction project, which also entails building a jet-fuel farm and an apron leading from the hangar to the hospital’s heliport, is expected to be completed in early June.

For now, Air Evac’s Bell 206 Long Ranger helicopter is located near the Hodding Carter Memorial YMCA.
