BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has banned a Florida company from doing business in the state.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1L4FiFA ) Annual Business Services sent fraudulent letters to businesses in North Dakota. Stenehjem says those letters implied companies were required by law to complete and file certain business forms each year and quoted prices for services.

The attorney general says the company used a mail forwarding service to appear as if they were based out of Bismarck. The company could be fined $1,000 for every solicitation letter it sends and every payment it takes.

Several businesses reported the letters to the state’s Consumer Protection Division.
