BALTIMORE (AP) - Baltimore police say a 12-year-old boy is in serious condition after a police car hit him in the street.

Police say the marked cruiser struck the boy about 4:15 p.m. Thursday in the Hampden neighborhood.

Lt. Sarah Connolly, a police spokeswoman, says the officer was responding to a call for service when the boy stepped in front of the moving car. She says the cruiser did not have its lights or siren on.

Connolly says the boy is being treated at a local hospital.
