BILOXI, Miss. (AP) - Biloxi Mayor-elect Andrew Gilich has named F. Cliff Kirkland to head his transition team.

Vincent Creel, Biloxi public affairs manager, tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1EH3SqB) Gilich likely will be sworn in next week. His public inauguration will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Biloxi Civic Center.

The Biloxi Election Commission certified the election late Tuesday night. Gilich received 4,347 votes to Winfield Swetman’s 2,933.

The Biloxi council recently hired Kirkland, a consultant who specializes in government affairs, development, marketing and public relations, as a consultant to plan and produce special events in the new MGM Park.

Councilman Kenny Glavan says Kirkland’s job as transition manager is strictly a volunteer position.
