BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Birmingham-Southern College has announced a new president.
College officials announced Wednesday Dr. Edward F. Leonard III, who is currently president of Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, will become the 14th president of Birmingham-Southern College. The 58-year-old was hired after an extensive selection process conducted by a search committee. He was approved by a Board vote. Leonard will take the reins from Gen. Charles C. Krulak, who retires from his position as 13th president on June 1.
The college said in a press release that Leonard’s accomplishments at Bethany include increasing enrollment, retention rates and racial and cultural diversity. Before arriving at Bethany, Leonard was vice president for college advancement at Wilmington College Ohio from 1998 to 2007.
Birmingham-Southern College is a four-year, private liberal arts institution.
