CABOT, Ark. (AP) - A Cabot man has entered a conditional guilty plea to charges he shot a Jacksonville police officer who was assisting in the execution of a federal search warrant.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1F9V8wr ) reports 54-year-old Mark Lyle Dodson entered his plea Tuesday. If his plea is approved, Dodson will be required to serve 15 years in prison.
Authorities say Dodson fired a shotgun through a bedroom door at officers who were serving a warrant obtained by Drug Enforcement Administration officers in search of methamphetamine.
Officer Jerry Keefer was shot in the arm. Police say officers returned fire, hitting Dodson in the arms and legs. Keefer was treated at a hospital and released that day. Dodson was hospitalized for his injuries and arrested days later.
Dodson was scheduled to be tried by a federal jury beginning Monday.
