SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in coastal Georgia say they’re investigating a couple that had been keeping dogs, cats, a squirrel and a tortoise in their house.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police say animal control officers recovered more than 30 animals from the couple’s home Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say seven dogs, 19 cats, a grey squirrel and an African spur thigh tortoise were seized when police executed a warrant. Officials say the animals are now receiving veterinary care.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against the couple.
