HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Hartford firefighter who said he feared a man he shot while off-duty last month has been charged with felony first-degree assault in connection with the incident.
City police arrested 54-year-old Donald Brown of Hartford on Thursday. He was charged in the April 24 shooting of 31-year-old Lascelles Reid of Simsbury outside a Hartford home. Police say Reid, who is married to Brown’s cousin, has not fully recovered from the torso wound.
Brown retired May 1 after 25 years with the fire department. He told police he shot Reid because Reid charged at him. Police say Brown legally owned the handgun.
A judge set bail at $150,000.
Brown’s response to the allegations isn’t known. No one answered phone listings for him Thursday. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
