BAKER, La. (AP) - The Baker School Board has announced Herman Brister Sr. as the sole finalist for superintendent of schools.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/1RK3lyb ) the board’s unanimous decision came Wednesday night following a closed-door session lasting nearly an hour.

Brister, who currently serves as associate superintendent for student support services in the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, is scheduled to be interviewed by the board on May 26. During that time, the public will be allowed to ask questions.

Brister was among eight applicants for the superintendent job. Outgoing Superintendent Ulysses Joseph announced his retirement March 31 and will leave his position May 28.

At a meeting May 5, board president Elaine Davis said it expects to have a new superintendent in place by June 1.
