CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - State Treasurer John Perdue has presented a 77-year-old Hurricane resident with an unclaimed property check for more than $20,000.
John Legge’s check was the result of liquidated stock shares and unredeemed dividends. After a certain period of lack of activity, such accounts are reported to the state Treasurer’s Office.
State law mandates liquidation of stock shares but forbids the expenditure of the proceeds.
Legge said he appreciated the effort Treasurer’s Office staff put into finding his lost assets.
