JENNING, La. (AP) - The Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury is moving forward on a retrofit project to protect critical government buildings from damaging winds.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) the police jury awarded a $590,338 bid to Phoenix Architectural on Wednesday to retrofit windows and doors for 10 buildings throughout the parish.

The project will retrofit 10 buildings: the town halls in Lake Arthur, Elton, Fenton and Welsh; the Jefferson Davis Parish Courthouse and the parish multipurpose building; the Jennings police and fire departments; Jennings American Legion Hospital; Police Jury offices; and the Elton fire station.

The project will be funded by federal and state money as part of a $1 million hazard mitigation grant program.
