JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A Jasper County judge has entered a $1.4 million default judgment against a master development firm hired to help Joplin recover from the May 2011 tornado.
Jasper County Judge Gayle Crane granted the financial award Wednesday against Wallace Bajjali Development Partners after the firm didn’t reply to a lawsuit filed by the city and the Joplin Redevelopment Corp. within 30 days.
The city and corporation sued the Texas-based development firm and its partners, David Wallace and Costa Bajjali, in March, saying they breached their contract with the city when the company closed in January and its owners resigned. The lawsuit against the two partners remains in effect because attempts to serve them were unsuccessful.
The Joplin Globe reports (https://bit.ly/1HfL2Ln ) the city hasn’t determined how the judgment could be collected.
