NEW YORK (AP) - The MTA says 40,000 Long Island Rail Road riders will face significant delays this weekend when service is suspended between Hicksville and Mineola.

Delays will be longest on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches but the service disruption Saturday and Sunday will affect all LIRR branches.

The MTA says riders on the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson branches should plan for an extra 40 to 60 minutes of travel time.

Service between Hicksville and Mineola is being suspended because of the demolition of the Ellison Avenue Bridge in Westbury.

Special weekend timetables will be in effect.

The service disruption will affect hockey fans attending Saturday’s Stanley Cup playoff game at Madison Square Garden between the New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
