CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the beating death of a man under a highway bridge near Magic Island last year.

The Charleston Gazette (https://bit.ly/1A1OYQ1 ) reports a judge sentenced 20-year-old Anthony Harriman Wednesday. Harriman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Martin Snodgrass last year.

Snodgrass’ wife, Vicky, says her husband was walking along Magic Island after work when he was attacked. Harriman was homeless at the time.

Prosecutors say Snodgrass did nothing to provoke the attack. They dropped a first-degree murder charge after Harriman pleaded guilty to the lesser offense and agreed to cooperate with authorities in two other cases.
