DUNCAN, Okla. (AP) - A district judge has agreed with a jury that a man who killed a teenage girl in 2012 should be sent to death row for the crime.
Twenty-three-year-old Miles Bench was convicted in February of first-degree murder in the 2012 death of Braylee Henry of Velma. District Judge Brent Russell on Wednesday issued the death sentence for Bench.
Authorities said Bench beat the 16-year-old girl to death in the backroom of a convenience store. Prosecutors had said Bench didn’t know the girl, but attacked her after she entered the store alone.
Henry was reported missing, and her body was later discovered in a secluded area near Velma. Bench was arrested when Oklahoma Highway Patrol found him in Henry’s car near Weatherford.
