ST. LOUIS (AP) - A St. Louis County sheriff’s deputy shot and wounded two pit bulls while serving an eviction notice, prompting a roughly three-hour standoff involving a man who occupied the home.
St. Louis County Police Department spokesman Brad Schellman says the dogs were shot about 10 a.m. Wednesday after a male occupant sent them after the deputy.
But the man’s girlfriend says the dogs were let out of the house only to allow them to get air, and that the residents didn’t know a deputy was outside until they heard gunshots.
After the gunfire, the man holed himself up inside the house owned by his father before surrendering hours later.
The dogs were taken to an animal hospital, and their medical status wasn’t clear Thursday.
There was no immediate word on charges.
