BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - Montana State running back Anthony Knight has been dismissed from the team for violating the school’s student-athlete code of conduct.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (https://goo.gl/KfDuhS ) the decision was handed down by head coach Rob Ash about 15 hours after Knight was arrested for partner or family member assault and theft following an early morning domestic dispute with a woman at a Belgrade apartment.

Knight is accused of throwing the woman’s purse at her face - injuring her left eye - and taking $85 from her purse, saying it was payment for a necklace that was broken during the confrontation.

Investigators say Knight told them he only put his hands on the woman and took the cash because he believed she owed him money and was upset about her breaking his personal property.

MSU officials declined to comment.
