WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) - The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is holding a blood drive in memory of a fallen officer.

The annual Schuck Memorial Blood Drive is scheduled for Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot in the back of the Oconee County Law Enforcement Center in Walhalla.

William Frederick Schuck III of Rabun Gap, Georgia, died in 2010. Officials say the 26-year-old Schuck was patrolling a private dirt road north of Walhalla when his car got stuck. When he got out of the car to assess his situation, the car apparently moved forward and pinned him to a tree.

Officials say they’ll also be accepting donations for a scholarship fund for a high school student planning to seek a degree that can be used in a law enforcement career.
