DALLAS (AP) - The oldest female African elephant at the Dallas Zoo has died of age-related health issues.

Mama the pachyderm was 45 years old.

Zoo officials on Thursday announced the death of the elephant, who for months underwent special health care including heat-lamp treatments.

Authorities say Mama weighed about 4 tons when she arrived at the Dallas Zoo in 2010. A zoo statement says she loved sweets, sugar cane and enjoyed being groomed.

Her death Wednesday leaves four other female elephants at the Dallas Zoo - Gypsy, Jenny, Congo and Kamba - at the Giants of the Savanna exhibit.
