SARVER, Pa. (AP) - A racetrack outside of Pittsburgh is back under local ownership.
Brackenridge-based Tomson Scrap Metal bought Lernerville Speedway in Sarver from World Racing Group, which had owned and operated the racetrack since 2005. The sale was completed Tuesday.
Ted Tomson and his brothers now own the track along with Ted’s sons. Speedway manager Gary Risch Jr. says the family likes to invest in the community. He notes that the family has also upgraded a local golf course.
In addition to its scrap metal business and golf course, the Tomson family operates a paper processing center in the region.
World Racing Group will operate the facility through the end of the year, and racing will proceed as scheduled under DIRTcar Racing sanctioning.
